Training for Technicians
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the automotive service technician profession is the fourth largest job in demand with an expected 339,000 employees needed by 2014 – that equals out to a projected growth of 10-20 percent over the next several years. Automotive technicians who are trained and specialized in alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles are expected to be in an even higher demand as the number of these vehicles increases.
NAFTC is working to fill this void with a wide array of automotive technician training in the specialized field of alternative fuel and advanced technology.
Training for First Responders
NAFTC offers a four-hour workshop with hands-on learning activities that focuses on problems that may arise with a hybrid’s high-voltage system following a vehicle accident. Areas such as safe extrication of passengers, automotive safety features, and myths pertaining to a hybrid’s advanced technology design are addressed. This training is also available as a two-day course for those interested in becoming an instructor of the workshop.
Training for Educators
If your college has an automotive program and wants to include alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicle training, you are eligible to become an NAFTC National Training Center.
NAFTC offers a Train-the-Trainers approach with courses developed to teach alternative fuel vehicle technology to these educators who then return to their institutions to conduct training. After receiving their initial training at West Virginia University, these trainers are supported with updated training, technical materials, training aids and on-line information through the NAFTC’s web site.
